Description
HART-capable analog output module, 4 channels, supports 0–20 mA / 4–20 mA output ranges and HART two-way signaling. Use it when field actuators or valve positioners demand current loop control plus HART diagnostics.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The XGF-DC4H converts signed 16-bit digital values from the PLC into analog current outputs and supports HART bi-directional communication over the same loops. The manual documents output ranges, maximum load resistances, and HART timing/command behavior; follow those limits for correct loop drive and reliable HART messaging.
Pros
- Combines analog D/A with HART capability so actuators and smart positioners can be interrogated and controlled from the PLC.
- Four channels per card keeps I/O density reasonable.
Limitations
- Output drive limits (max loop resistance) must be respected; otherwise, the loop won’t reach target current.
- HART on outputs still needs careful wiring and power/terminator planning.
Typical use cases
- Driving valve positioners, proportional actuators, and other current-driven devices while maintaining HART access for tuning and diagnostics.
