Description
Largest standard expansion base in the common XGB range here, with 12 slots for I/O modules; when you want lots of local I/O without adding another CPU. Good for heavier panels.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The E12A holds 12 I/O modules and is dimensioned for denser OEM panels where minimizing inter-chassis wiring is a priority. Vendor cut sheets list overall dimensions, slot pitch and mounting recommendations; check mechanical drawings before laying out the panel.
Pros
- High local I/O capacity in a single expansion board, reduces ribbon/cable complexity.
- Ideal when you want to keep IO grouped and avoid remote racks.
Limitations
- Biggest physical footprint of the four; may block other panel components.
- More terminal blocks and cabling to plan for during assembly.
Typical use cases
- Large OEM machines and cells with many analog and discrete channels where a single-bay expansion simplifies wiring.
