Description
RAPIEnet interface module offering mixed media options: twisted pair cable channel and optional optical channels depending on the SKU. Designed for flexible RAPIEnet physical layers in an XGB rack.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The XBL-EIMH is the multi-media RAPIEnet I/F variant that may expose one twisted pair copper channel and up to two optical channels depending on model and region. It supports RAPIEnet 100 Mbps transport and is useful where a mix of short copper links and longer fiber legs are part of the machine architecture. The datasheet lists transmission media variants, maximum extension distances for each media type, and recommended cable/termination practices.
Pros
- Flexible media support lets you mix cable types for different runs in the same machine.
- 100 Mbps RAPIEnet deterministic link for coordinated distributed control.
Limitations
- Mixed media adds inventory overhead and installation complexity.
- Carefully follow the vendor’s media-specific max distance and termination guidance.
Typical use cases
Machines where short copper drops and long fiber trunks coexist, such as modular lines with distributed cells.
