Description
RAPIEnet optical interface module (fiber optic variant) for XGB systems, providing a high-speed deterministic field network link over fiber for noisy or long-distance runs. Suitable when optical isolation or extended node spacing is required.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The XBL-EIMF is the fiber-optic flavor of the RAPIEnet interface family for XGB PLCs. It implements RAPIEnet transport at 100 Mbps and is meant for environment-sensitive or long-distance interconnects (fiber media), with vendor documentation listing media-specific ranges and node counts. Choose the EIMF when you need optical isolation or long cable runs that copper cannot reliably service.
Pros
- Optical link gives galvanic isolation and immunity to EMI.
- RAPIEnet 100 Mbps deterministic transport suited for distributed control.
Limitations
- Fiber transceivers and cabling are more expensive and require care on termination.
- Requires planning for fiber connectors, spare transceivers, and appropriate spare parts.
Typical use cases
- Long distance machine-to-machine links in high EMI environments, or where galvanic isolation is mandatory.
