Description
XBL-DSEA
DeviceNet slave interface module for the XGB family, enabling a PLC to appear as a DeviceNet node on a DeviceNet network. Supports DeviceNet speeds up to 500 kbps and typical slave services such as I/O polling and change-of-state.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The XBL-DSEA turns an XGB PLC into a DeviceNet slave, exposing PLC I/O and parameters to a DeviceNet master. It follows DeviceNet timing and services, supports 125/250/500 kbps transmission rates, and has modest external current consumption typical of comms modules (example vendor listings show ≈100 mA @ 24 VDC). Use it when your machine must integrate into an existing DeviceNet plant or when a higher-level controller expects DeviceNet slave nodes.
Pros
- Adds DeviceNet slave capability without extra gateways.
- Supports standard DeviceNet speeds (125/250/500 kbps).
- Low power draw for a comms module; easy to fit into XGB expansion slots.
Limitations
- DeviceNet is legacy on many new installs; consider CANopen/EtherCAT if plant is modernizing.
- Node configuration and I/O mapping must be done in the DeviceNet master; double-check mapping during integration.
Typical use cases
- Making an XGB PLC a DeviceNet slave for integration into legacy lines.
- OEM machines sold into plants that still require DeviceNet connectivity.
