Description
Combination digital module with 8 discrete 24 VDC inputs and 8 relay outputs (Form A SPST), offering mixed sensing and switching on one card. Relay outputs provide galvanic isolation for AC and DC loads.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The XBE-DR16A pairs photocoupled inputs with relay outputs to give a compact I/O card suited to control functions that need isolated switching (motors, solenoids via contactors, or AC loads) while keeping local sensor inputs on the same module. Relay outputs are rated for typical industrial loads (2 A per point, up to 5 A common depending on wiring), and input thresholds and response times follow XGB series parameters. Ideal where isolation and load versatility are required without separate output modules.
Pros
- Relay outputs can switch AC or DC loads and provide galvanic isolation.
- On-card inputs let you colocate sensors with isolated switching elements.
Limitations
- Relays have finite mechanical/electrical life and lower max switching frequency than transistor outputs; plan for life/cycle accordingly.
- Lower point count per module compared with high-density DC input/output cards.
Typical use cases
- Controlling small AC actuators, pilot solenoids, or relay-driven loads where isolation prevents noise from upsetting PLC logic.
- Machines requiring mixed I/O but also isolated switching for safety or EMI reasons.
