Description
Economic compact CPU with 8 DI + 6 relay outputs, E-class performance for small panels that need isolated outputs.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
DR14E is the slightly larger E-class relay-output CPU (8 inputs, 6 relay outputs) with the E-series tradeoffs: low program capacity (~4k steps), slower processing (~240 ns/step) but essential built-in functions like serial comms, high-speed counter basics, pulse catch and input filtering. It’s listed as supporting one expansion stage in many manuals, which is enough for tiny extensions but not for larger architectures. Use DR14E where a handful of isolated outputs are needed in a low-cost controller.
Pros
- Relay outputs make it easy to drive AC pilot loads without extra relays.
- Low cost and simple commissioning with standard LS tools.
Limitations
- E-class memory and speed limits; not for heavy logic or high-speed motion.
- Limited expansion (typically only 1 front expansion).
Typical use cases
- Small auxiliary control boxes, pilot control for valves/contactors, simple conveyor controllers and other panels where isolated relay outputs are more important than processing horsepower.
