Description
U-type compact CPU with positioning emphasis: 16 DI + 16 transistor DO (NPN/PNP options) with built-in positioning features (UP suffix indicates positioning-capable U family). Good when you need compact I/O plus light axis positioning.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The UP variants (DN32UP) are U-type compact CPUs that add positioning/advanced motion functions to the standard DN32U feature set. LS XGB/U docs and the XBC UP positioning notes show axis download, positioning memory mapping and the special commands supported by UP models. If your machine needs limited positioning (few axes, low Mpps requirement) but you want the small U footprint, DN32UP is the obvious pick. As always, check the UP-positioning limits (axes, pulse rates) in the UP manual.
Pros
- Built-in positioning in a compact U-type CPU saves expansion and separate motion controllers.
- NPN/PNP options let you match field wiring.
Limitations
- Positioning capability is limited vs full motion controllers or H-type positioning modules — confirm axis and speed limits.
- U-type limits on expansion and high-speed backplane modules compared with XBC H class.
Typical use cases
- Small indexing machines, packaging equipment with 1–4 axes of light positioning, applications that need compact I/O plus modest motion without a full motion controller.
