Description
LS Electric Metasol MC-9a (MC9A-30-10-B7-S-E): compact 3-pole contactor with 1 NO auxiliary, screw terminals (Metasol small-frame).
LS Electric Metasol MC-12a (MC12A-30-01-K7-S-E): next size up in the same family; 3-pole with auxiliary variants; example coil = AC120 V 50/60 Hz.
Two Metasol general-purpose magnetic contactors: MC-9a is the tiny, panel-dense option (≈9 A class) available in DC and AC coil bands; MC-12a is the slightly larger small-frame (≈12 A class) with common AC coil variants such as 120 VAC. Both support DIN-rail or screw panel mounting and the Metasol accessory ecosystem.
LS Electric Contactor MC-9a MC-12a Coil Voltage 24VDC 120VDC 240VDC (MC9A-30-10-B7-S-E) (MC-12a AC240V 50/60Hz)
If you want reliable LS build quality without wasting rack space, these do the job. MC-9a is for light control and small motor switching (tight panels, DC or low-voltage control); MC-12a gives a modest current bump for slightly larger small motors. Neither replaces a heavy-duty starter, but both integrate cleanly into modern control cabinets and ship with the usual Metasol certifications.
Pros
- Compact footprint (MC-9a ≈45 mm wide); great for dense panels.
- Wide coil-options: DC bands (24 VDC, 100–125 VDC, 200–250 VDC) for MC-9a; common AC coils (120/240 VAC) for MC-12a.
- Good accessory ecosystem (auxiliary blocks, interlocks, overload relay mounts).
Limitations
- Low nominal AC-3 ratings (MC-9a ≈9 A; MC-12a ≈12 A); not for large motor starts.
- DC coil pickup/dropout behaviour differs from AC; check coil spec table before specifying.
Typical use cases
- MC-9a: DC-backed or low-voltage control cabinets, telecom/UPS switching, small pumps and fans.
- MC-12a: Slightly larger small motors — conveyors, blowers, HVAC zones where 120 VAC control is standard.
- Both: OEM equipment, machine panels requiring DIN-rail flexibility and LS accessory ecosystem.
