Description
RS-232C communication module for the G6 / GM6 PLC family, used to link the PLC to a PC or other serial device via Cnet protocol.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The G6L-CUEB is a “Computer Link” module — effectively a serial port — that enables communication between a GM6 CPU and external devices (PCs, HMIs, printers) using the RS-232C standard. According to the GM6 series manual, it supports data rates from 300 up to 38,400 bps. Because it’s a dedicated communication module, it occupies an I/O slot in the rack.
Pros
- Standard RS-232C interface means very compatible with legacy systems.
- Supports Cnet communication protocol for GM6.
- Easy to configure and integrate with PCs or HMIs using standard serial drivers.
Limitations
- Lower speed and distance than modern Ethernet or fieldbus modules.
- Occupies I/O slot that could be used for digital/analog I/O.
- Uses fairly old communication standard; less ideal for large data or high-speed tasks.
Typical use cases
- Programming or configuring PLCs from a laptop.
- Debugging or logging via serial protocols.
- Connecting legacy devices (printers, serial HMIs) in automation setups.
