Description
A 2-channel high-speed counter module for LS PLCs with open-collector inputs and a maximum count speed of 200 kpps. Counting range is the same large 32-bit signed range.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
The G6F-HO1C is a more “classic” high-speed counter module for PLCs, using open-collector (transistor) inputs. This makes it compatible with many common encoders or signal sources that output simple transistor pulses. The 200 kpps speed and full ±2.1 billion count range allow it to handle moderate speed counting tasks reliably, especially when line-drive differential signaling is not required. According to LS manuals, it supports up/down counting, gating, preset, and comparison functions.
Pros
- Compatible with a wide range of encoder types that output open-collector signals.
- 32-bit signed counter means very large counting range.
- Supports preset, latch, comparison, and other counter functions by program.
Limitations
- Max speed is lower (200 kpps) compared to the line-drive version.
- Open-collector inputs may not be ideal for very long cable runs due to signal degradation.
- Requires proper power to the open-collector inputs (and possibly pull-up) depending on encoder.
Typical use cases
- Counting from simpler or legacy encoders with open-collector outputs.
- Applications where moderate speed is sufficient (e.g. RPM counting, event counting, simple positional feedback).
- Gating-based counting tasks where preset or comparison output may be used (e.g. batch processes).
