Description
The G4L-PUEB is a PROFIBUS-DP master communication module for the G4L/GM series PLCs, offering a larger I/O data size compared to the PUEA variant. The PUEB supports I/O data up to ~7 Kbytes.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
If your factory uses PROFIBUS-DP networks (RS-485, master/slave) and you need a master interface in your G4L PLC rack, the PUEB gives you that capability with significant data capacity (7 K bytes vs earlier 1 K in smaller modules). The LS “Automation Products” catalogue lists G4L-PUEB alongside PUEA under the “Profibus-DP master module (7 Kbyte)” description. It’s a good choice for large distributed I/O networks where the master has to manage many slaves and large data blocks.
Pros
- High data capacity (7 K bytes) supports large PROFIBUS-DP networks and extensive I/O.
- Standard PROFIBUS protocol, wide industrial adoption, good interoperability.
- Backed by LS Electric’s catalogue, so documentation and part numbering are consistent.
Limitations
- PROFIBUS infrastructure (cables, repeaters, terminators) still needed; not a plug-and-play Ethernet module.
- RS-485-based network, which may be considered legacy in future upgrades.
- Slightly higher cost and complexity compared to more common Ethernet modules.
Typical use cases
- Plant installations where PROFIBUS-DP is the network standard and many I/O stations are distributed.
- Upgrading or maintaining older systems that use PROFIBUS-DP rather than Ethernet.
- OEM systems where PROFIBUS-DP compatibility is required for integration with other subsystems.
