Description
G4L-FUOA is the optical (fiber) Fnet communication module for G4/GM4 PLCs, providing the Fnet protocol over fiber optic media. It’s the fiber counterpart to the FUEA electric module, used where galvanic isolation or long runs are necessary.
The Polar Energy Assessment:
When you actually care about noise immunity, lightning protection, or crossing long distances between buildings, FUOA is the sensible option: it carries Fnet traffic over optical fibre so ground loops and heavy EMI vanish from the equation. LS’s Fnet documentation groups FUOA with its electric sibling and explains pinouts, optical wiring (cross TX/RX), and required resistors for some connector types. Use FUOA where the plant environment (motors, HV lines) or distance makes copper risky or unreliable.
Pros
- Galvanic isolation and immunity to EMI; ideal for noisy industrial environments.
- Supports longer runs (hundreds to thousands of meters depending on fiber type) without repeaters.
- Same Fnet protocol features as copper FUEA; deterministic communications with LS ecosystem support.
Limitations
- Higher cost for transceivers and fiber cable, and installers must be comfortable with fiber terminations.
- More delicate physical layer; take care on routing and bend radius.
Typical use cases
- Inter-building PLC networks, long plant spans, or electrically noisy areas where copper fails intermittently.
- Installations that need isolation to prevent ground-loop induced errors or damage.
- Long-distance Fnet backbones in large facilities.
